Back Baby Bug Back, gold (one strip, tapered at the tie-in)
Body and thorax Arctic Wind dubbing, brown (small pinches)
Rib Medium copper wire (one length)
Legs Mini Bug Legs, brown (2 strands)
How to tie it
Slide the 3.3mm copper slotted tungsten bead onto a number 10 barbed hook, mount it, and wrap the thread inside the bead slot until it comes up tight. That stops the bead moving.
Hold the thread at 45 degrees and lay a base back to just before the bend.
Tie in a strand of brown Mini Bug Legs for the tail, pull it back and take a couple of wraps over it so it sits straight.
Tie in the medium copper wire rib.
Taper the end of the gold Baby Bug Back slightly, tie it in with a pinch wrap at the rear, then pull it back and stretch it gently as you wrap rearwards over it.
Dub the brown Arctic Wind on and wind the abdomen, keeping it reasonably thin at the start and building a slight taper as you work forward. Leave enough room for the thorax.
Fold the Baby Bug Back forward over the abdomen and pull it nice and tight.
Counter-wind the copper wire over the back and abdomen, three or four turns at even spacing, and tie it off, then helicopter the wire to break it cleanly.
Take the Baby Bug Back a little way back over the wraps and bind it, still leaving room for the thorax.
Dub more Arctic Wind and build the thorax, leaving the thread in the middle of it.
Catch a strand of Mini Bug Legs under the thread and pull it over to the far side, take a wrap, then slide a second strand under the thread on the near side and add another wrap.
Wind forward to the bead, pull the Baby Bug Back over tight and tie it down, fold it back and tie it down again, taking care not to chop any legs, then snip it off.
Put a little glue on the thread and whip finish. Trim the legs to about the length of the abdomen and the tail slightly longer than the abdomen, folding them together and being careful not to stretch them or they will end up short.
