Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2x long dry/wet, 8-12
  • Thread Black & yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Body Yellow chenille or foam (full)
  • Back Black chenille or marker (stripe)
  • Hackle Clipped, sparse (legs)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and lay a base along the 2x long shank.
  2. Tie in yellow chenille (or a foam strip) at the bend, and tie in black chenille alongside for the back stripe.
  3. Wrap the yellow chenille forward to form a full, plump body and tie off behind the eye.
  4. Lay the black chenille forward over the top as a dorsal stripe and bind it down (or draw the stripe with a black marker).
  5. Tie in a hackle and palmer a sparse turn or two, then clip it top and bottom so only stubby leg fibers remain along the sides.
  6. Build a head, whip finish, and cement.
