Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Tail Muskrat guard hairs (tuft)
  • Body Muskrat fur, spun in loop, shaggy (full)
  • Collar Muskrat guard hair (flared)
  • Head Black ostrich (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Start black thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small tuft of muskrat guard hairs as a tail.
  3. Spin muskrat fur (guard hairs and all) in a dubbing loop and wrap forward as a shaggy full body to the thorax. No hard parts, everything breathes.
  4. Tie in a bunch of muskrat guard hair and distribute it around the shank as a flared collar.
  5. Tie in black ostrich herl and take 2 turns in front of the collar to form a soft head.
  6. Whip finish and cement.
