Carp Soft Hackle

Nymph · Carp · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet/nymph hook, 8-12
  • Thread Rust 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (Brass or tungsten bead)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire)
  • Body Rust-brown material (Hare's ear dubbing)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (One partridge or hen feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in fine copper wire at the bend for the rib.
  3. Dub a slim, buggy body forward to a bead's width behind the bead.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns and tie it off, then helicopter the tag to break it.
  5. Tie in a partridge or hen feather by the tip, take 1-2 turns for a sparse, breathing collar, and bind the stem.
  6. Build a thread collar against the bead, whip finish, and pick out a few body fibers.
