Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig/heavy grub hook, 12
  • Thread Brown 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Fluorescent orange slotted tungsten bead (Jig bead sized to hook)
  • Legs Barred brown rubber legs (Fine round rubber, 2 pairs)
  • Body Rust-brown material (Buggy nymph dubbing)
  • Collar Brown permanent marker (Hen hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a fluorescent-orange jig bead to the eye of the jig hook and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a pair of barred rubber legs at the bend, splayed as a short tail.
  3. Dub a shaggy, tapered body forward, stopping a bead's width short of the bead.
  4. Figure-8 a second pair of rubber legs at the front of the body so they kick to the sides.
  5. Tie in a hen hackle by the tip, sweep it back, and take 1-2 turns for a soft collar against the bead.
  6. Bind the stem, build a small thread collar, and whip finish.
