Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL nymph hook, 6-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black bead (Optional brass/tungsten bead)
  • Legs White or black rubber legs (Round rubber, 3 pairs)
  • Body Black or brown ostrich herl (Medium chenille)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook (add a bead at the eye if you want extra weight) and lay a thread base over the shank.
  2. Tie in a pair of rubber legs at the bend, splayed as a tail, then tie in the chenille at the bend.
  3. Wrap the chenille forward two turns, then figure-8 a pair of rubber legs on the sides and continue.
  4. Wrap two more turns, figure-8 the front pair of legs, then finish the chenille to just behind the eye.
  5. Trim all six legs so the rear pair is longest and the front pair shortest, giving a scrambling look.
  6. Build a thread head, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
