Carp Dough Boy

Nymph · Carp · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap scud/nymph hook, 8-10
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (Optional brass bead)
  • Body Corn-yellow (Egg yarn or bright dubbing)
  • Accent Orange permanent marker (Wisp of egg yarn or hot-spot dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook (add a gold bead at the eye if you want it to sink) and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a clump of corn-yellow egg yarn on top of the shank at the bend.
  3. Spin a loose noodle of yellow dubbing and build a round, ball-like body over the middle of the shank. Think a soft dough ball, not a slim nymph.
  4. Add a small wisp of orange yarn or hot-spot dubbing at the front as an accent.
  5. Sweep any stray fibers back and trim the body to a rough round shape with scissors.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and rough up the ball so it looks soft and edible.
