Reference Recipe

  • Hook saltwater, 1/0-2/0
  • Thread white 3/0 flat

Materials

  • Anti-foul base White uni stretch (Ultra Hair)
  • Belly Pearl white core braid (synthetic hair (Angel Hair))
  • Lateral line Pearl anti static bag strip (flash)
  • Back Olive/gray material (Angel Hair)
  • Eyes Stick-on (1 pair)
  • Head Clear head cement (epoxy or UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at mid-shank.
  2. Tie a small bundle of white Ultra Hair along the shank first as an anti-foul base. It keeps the long synthetics from wrapping the bend on the cast.
  3. Tie in a slim belly of pearl-white synthetic hair, then a lateral line of pearl flash.
  4. Add a back of olive or gray Angel Hair, keeping the whole fly sparse and translucent for a silverside profile.
  5. Sweep everything back, comb it smooth, and set a pair of stick-on eyes at the head.
  6. Build a thread head and coat it and the eyes with epoxy or UV resin.
