Tail Light dun Mayfly Tails or hackle fibers (3-4 fibers)
Abdomen Tying thread or gray goose biot (as needed)
Wing Dun snowshoe rabbit foot hair (1 small clump)
Thorax Natural beaver or gray Superfine dubbing (small amount)
How to tie it
Start thread behind the eye and wrap a smooth base to the bend. Tie in three or four dun tailing fibers, split or straight, one shank length long.
Build a slim abdomen with touching thread wraps (or wrap a goose biot for segmentation) up to the 60% mark.
Cut a small clump of hair from a snowshoe rabbit's foot, keeping the underfur, and tie it in at the 60% mark as a single upright-to-forward wing clump. WHY snowshoe: the dense, crinkly foot hair traps air and floats all day without hackle, and it's easy to see.
Post a few thread wraps at the wing base to stand it up.
Dub a small thorax around and behind the wing so the fly sits flush in the film with its body low, like a dun stuck in the surface.
Whip finish behind the eye and cement. Dress only the wing with powder floatant.
