Candyshop Intruder

Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook steelhead intruder (shank + stinger), trailing hook #2 on wire loop; 25-40mm shank
  • Thread fluorescent pink 6/0

Materials

  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (lead dumbbell)
  • Rear butt UV pink material (ice dub)
  • Rear hackle Pink rear hackle (schlappen, 2-3 turns)
  • Rear support Chartreuse arctic fox (ostrich herl + flash)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (braid)
  • Front hackle Purple hackle (schlappen, 2-3 turns)
  • Legs/collar Blue-barred rubber legs (guinea)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the shank and lay a thread base; rig a loop of braided wire trailing off the back for a short-shank stinger hook.
  2. At the rear, tie a small bump of UV pink ice dub, then wind a station of pink schlappen (2-3 turns) followed by chartreuse ostrich herl and a few strands of flash sweeping back past the hook.
  3. Advance thread and wind a short body of pearl braid to mid-shank.
  4. Tie in and wind the front station: purple schlappen, 2-3 turns, then a collar of blue-dyed guinea for barred legs.
  5. Add the lead dumbbell eyes just behind the shank eye with tight figure-8 wraps. The front weight makes the intruder jig and the materials pulse.
  6. Build a thread head, whip finish, and cement.
