Reference Recipe
- Hook standard dry, 14-16
- Thread gray 8/0
Materials
- Tail Gray/tan material (two microfibbets, split)
- Abdomen Tan-gray material (turkey biot or dubbing, segmented)
- Spent wings Tan carapace (scud-back strip, one each side)
- Post Gray flotation (macrame yarn, upright)
- Hackle Grizzly & brown hackle (one each, parachute)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook, start thread, and run to the bend.
- Tie in two microfibbets and split them into a forked tail matching the natural.
- Wrap or dub a slim, segmented tan-gray abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
- Tie in a clump of gray macrame yarn upright as a wing post and secure the base. The fat post is highly visible and helps float the fly.
- Tie a strip of tan scud-back out to each side as spent nymphal wings.
- Tie in a grizzly and a brown hackle at the post and wind both parachute-style around it, 4-5 turns.
- Whip finish under the hackle and clip the post to about a gap-and-a-half.
