Baitfish · Striped Bass · Bluefish · False Albacore · Jack · Tarpon · Snook · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook saltwater (e.g. Mustad 34011/811S), 1/0-2/0
  • Thread white 3/0 flat

Materials

  • Belly White uni stretch (Ultra Hair)
  • Lateral line Pearl anti static bag strip (wide Flashabou strip)
  • Back Olive (or chartreuse) material (Ultra Hair)
  • Body Clear head cement (5-minute epoxy or UV resin)
  • Eyes Stick-on (1 pair)
  • Gills Red buzzer wrap (paint or marker)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the saltwater hook and lay a thread base over the front third.
  2. Tie a sparse bunch of white Ultra Hair on top and a matching bunch below to form a slim eel taper extending past the bend.
  3. Add a wide strip of pearl Flashabou as a lateral line, then a top layer of olive Ultra Hair for the back.
  4. Whip finish, remove the thread, and comb the hair into a smooth tapered profile.
  5. Stick a pair of eyes on each side at the head.
  6. Coat the front two-thirds with 5-minute epoxy or UV resin, shaping a bullet head and taper, and rotate until cured. The hard clear body gives the translucent baitfish shape and durability.
  7. Paint red gills behind the head and add a final thin resin coat.
