Classic Recipe
- Hook Blind-eye or up-eye classic salmon fly hook, 1/0-6
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Tag Fine oval silver tinsel (as needed)
- Tail Ibis and summer duck (1 slip each)
- Body Three turns of black silk followed by black seal's fur (full shank)
- Rib Silver tinsel (5-6 turns)
- Hackle Dark fiery-brown from the seal's fur, palmered (1)
- Wing Double jungle cock and two toppings (2 jungle + 2 toppings)
- Head Black wool (small)
How to tie it
- Wrap a tag of fine oval silver tinsel over the barb, then tie in a slip of scarlet ibis and summer duck for the tail.
- Wind three turns of black silk, then spin and wrap black seal's fur for the rest of the body; rib with silver tinsel in evenly spaced turns.
- Palmer a dark fiery-brown hackle over the seal's fur portion, one turn behind each rib.
- Set two matched jungle cock feathers back to back as the wing and arch two golden toppings over the top.
- Form a small black wool head and whip finish.
