Adhesive Fly Tyer's Z-Ment (a little on the thread base)
Body Trident cinnamon flavour chewing gum, pre-chewed (one piece)
Veil Sybai Angelina dubbing, pink (a small pinch in a dubbing loop)
How to tie it
Mount a Hanak H490BL Jig Trophy in a size 16 with a 2.5mm matte black slotted tungsten bead. It is a heavy-wire jig hook, so paired with the tungsten it will sink and it will tend to ride point up.
Build a thread dam behind the bead with black 12/0 until the thread starts to run down the ramp, apply pressure with your right hand, tear off the tag and carry on down the shank.
Lay a thread base back to where a barb would be, then return to the starting point and hold steady there.
Run a little Fly Tyer's Z-Ment straight onto the thread base. The body material needs something to adhere to, exactly as it would on a mop fly.
Take a piece of Trident cinnamon gum, already chewed, and place it around the shank, pinching it so it goes the whole way round. Do not make a mess of it.
Wind a few thread wraps in front to lock everything in position.
Form a quick dubbing loop with a Stonfo Roto Dubbing tool, a couple of wraps behind and in front to lock it.
Load a small pinch of pink Angelina fibres into the loop, slide them well up so they sit close to the shank, and spin. Make sure the fibres are thoroughly disordered before you do.
Once the loop is spun, run a fingernail through it to pick the fibres out; you do not want it dense.
Take one wrap, then on the second wrap pull the fibres lightly back, and lock the loop off with three wraps. Trim it away.
If the material turns on you, the glue has not set. Pull the fibres back with your fingers and add a couple more wraps.
Put a little head cement or super glue on the thread and whip finish.
Pick the Angelina fibres out with a dubbing brush, being fairly aggressive, and push them back over the whole body to form the veil.
