Materials

  • Copper bead Copper (tungsten or brass) bead (2.8 mm)
  • Lead wire Natural lead wire (a few wraps (0.015))
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (small clump (tail))
  • Sulky metallic tinsel (rib) Gold oval tinsel (1 strand)
  • SLF squirrel spiky dubbing (body) Natural hare s ear dubbing (small amount)
  • Ice dub (thorax) UV brown ice dub (small amount)
  • Brahma/hen soft hackle Greenwell (1 feather)
  • Ice dub (hot spot) Shrimp pink (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the copper bead onto the hook, add a few wraps of 0.015 lead behind the bead to lock it, and start the thread.
  2. Build a thin body base and tie in a short, stubby natural pheasant tail tail at the bend.
  3. Tie in the gold Sulky tinsel for the rib at the bend.
  4. Dub a thin, buggy squirrel body up to the thorax, then counter-wrap the gold rib forward and tie off.
  5. Dub a thorax of UV brown ice dub.
  6. Tie in the greenwell hen soft hackle and take one or two wraps as a collar; tie off.
  7. Dub a small shrimp-pink ice dub hot spot in front of the hackle, whip finish, and pick out the pink dubbing.
