Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Tail Grizzly or wood duck fibers (3, short)
  • Body Tan-gray dubbing (slim)
  • Rib Fine wire (spiral)
  • Wingcase Dark turkey (folded)
  • Legs Partridge (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Start tan-gray thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in 3 short grizzly or wood duck fibers as a tail.
  3. Catch in fine wire, then dub a slim tapered body forward to the 65% mark and rib it with 5-6 open wire turns.
  4. Tie in a section of dark turkey over the thorax to be folded forward as a wingcase.
  5. Dub a slightly fuller thorax up behind the eye.
  6. Fold the turkey forward over the thorax and bind it as the wingcase.
  7. Tie in a few sparse partridge fibers each side as legs, then whip finish and cement.
