Callibaetis Foam Floating Nymph

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry/nymph, 14-16
  • Thread gray 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Wood duck (few fibers)
  • Abdomen Gray-brown material (dubbing)
  • Wingcase Gray razor foam mm (thin foam strip)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (partridge fibers each side)
  • Thorax Gray-brown material (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread, and run to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short wood duck fiber tail, about half a shank.
  3. Dub a slim gray-brown abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Tie in a strip of gray foam at the 60% mark to fold forward as a floating wingcase. The foam bubble hangs the nymph right in the film.
  5. Tie in a few partridge fibers on each side as legs.
  6. Dub a thorax, pull the foam over as a wingcase, and tie it down behind the eye.
  7. Whip finish.
