Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry, 12-14
  • Thread black 8/0

Materials

  • Body Yellow & black banded (dubbing)
  • Wing White uni stretch (poly yarn or deer hair)
  • Legs Black ostrich herl (rubber, one each side (optional))
  • Hackle Brown hackle (4-5 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start black thread, and run to the bend.
  2. Dub alternating black and yellow bands up the shank to the 65% mark, keeping a fat bee-body taper.
  3. Tie in a short white poly or deer-hair wing swept back over the body, tips to the bend.
  4. Optionally tie a black rubber leg splayed on each side at the thorax.
  5. Tie in a brown hackle at the front of the body.
  6. Wind 4-5 hackle turns as a collar and tie off.
  7. Whip finish a small black head.
