Start the black thread and lay a base back to the start of the bend, about the barb.
Pull about four barred wood duck fibres, set them on top so both black bars show and the tail angles slightly down, and bind them in; check they sit centred. Leave the butts under the thread without building bulk.
Tie in the medium silver tinsel gold side up so the silver shows when it flips over on the wrap, bind it back to the start of the tail, then run the thread to the front and park it with a couple of half hitches.
Run a small bead of head cement over the underbody and smooth it so the tinsel has something to grip.
Wrap the tinsel forward in slightly overlapping turns under constant tension, the first turn covering the thread at the tail, and stop one to one-and-a-half eye-lengths behind the eye. Lock it with a wrap behind, one in front and one behind again, then trim and bury the tag.
Select two black saddle hackle feathers of matching band and fullness. Measure them to reach a little past the wood duck tail, swap hands, pinch tight and strip the fibres from the base. Set them on top a little back from the eye to leave room for the cheeks and collar, take a loose wrap then a medium wrap, check they are centred, then secure and snip the butts.
Lay a jungle cock eye flat on each side as a cheek, well back and angled up so both the yellow and white nails show. Use loose to medium wraps and check position, because they spin, then lock with tighter wraps and trim the butts.
Strip an orange saddle hackle to its tip, tie it in, fold the tag back on itself and lock it with a couple of wraps before snipping so it cannot pull out.
Wind at least four turns of the orange saddle as a collar, preening the fibres back as you go, and take a locking wrap. Pinch the fibres back and pull free any that were trapped.
Build a big streamer head, whip finish with four or five turns, and coat with UV resin or head cement, curing about 10-15 seconds under the light.
