Materials
Bead Copper bead (One, 7/64 inch)
Lead wire, 0.015 Silver lead free wire (12 turns)
Ringneck pheasant tail fibers Natural (also tied bleached or black) (Four for the tail, a bunch for the body, six to ten for the wing case and legs)
Holographic tinsel Copper flashabou (One length for the shellback and wing case)
Wire, extra fine Gold or copper fine wire (One length for the rib)
Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (Two strands for the thorax)
UV resin (Solarez Bone Dry) Clear uv resin (A dab over the wing case)
How to tie it
Slide a 7/64 inch copper bead onto a #12 curved nymph hook with the wide end facing the rear, then wrap 12 turns of 0.015 lead wire, push them up behind the bead and nip off the tag.
Start brown thread behind the lead and build a smooth taper over the wraps, using your thumbnail as a guide to roll the thread bump into shape.
Tie in four pheasant tail fibres at the bend as a short tail, shortening them by pulling them back through the wraps if needed.
Tie in the copper holographic tinsel for the shellback and a length of extra fine gold wire for the rib, both bound back to the rear.
Take a bunch of pheasant tail fibres, tie them in at the rear, and wrap them forward in touching turns to the 60% point with your index finger held on top to stop them slipping; tie off.
Pull the holographic tinsel forward over the top of the abdomen as a shellback and tie it back over itself, then rib the whole abdomen with evenly spaced turns of fine wire and tie off.
Tie in six to ten pheasant tail fibres with their tips lined up, pointing back over the abdomen, at the front of the body. These become both the wing case and the legs.
Tie in two peacock herls by the tips and wrap a full thorax up to the bead.
Pull the pheasant fibres forward over the thorax as a wing case and tie them down behind the bead, then pull the holographic tinsel over the top of that and lock it with a turn of thread.
Divide the short pheasant fibre tips to each side as legs, trim any that snarl, whip finish, and run a dab of UV resin across the wing case and the thread wraps to make the fly last.
