  • Hook curved scud/pupa (e.g. TMC 2487), 14-18
  • Thread olive dun 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black tungsten bead (1, sized to hook (optional))
  • Rib Chartreuse arctic fox (Ultra Wire (brassie))
  • Shellback Brown thin skin mottled (Super Floss)
  • Abdomen Olive ostrich herl (dubbing)
  • Wing buds Brown permanent marker (Super Floss, one loop each side)
  • Antennae Cream semperfli cashmere monkey (few Fluoro Fibre strands)
  • Collar Natural dun wing bud (CDC, 2 turns)
  • Head Black ostrich herl (Ice Dub)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook (add the black tungsten bead first if weighting) and start thread.
  2. Tie in the chartreuse Ultra Wire rib and a strand of brown Super Floss for the shellback at the bend.
  3. Dub a slim olive abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Pull the Super Floss shellback over the top and rib the chartreuse wire forward over it in 5-6 turns; tie off and snip, the wire both segments the body and armors the shellback.
  5. For wing buds, tie a short loop of brown Super Floss down each side reaching the hook point.
  6. Tie in a few cream Fluoro Fibre antennae sweeping forward past the eye, then wind a natural dun CDC collar, two turns.
  7. Dub a small black Ice Dub head and whip finish.
