Hook curved caddis/pupa hook (e.g. TMC 3761 or 3769), 12-18
Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
Bead (optional) Gold/copper tungsten or brass bead (1)
Underbody Large pearl tinsel (1)
Body Olive/tan Vernille or micro velvet chenille (1)
Rib Gold/copper wire (Brassie) (1 strand)
Antennae Wood duck or mallard flank fibers (few fibers)
Legs/collar Mottled brown partridge or grouse (1 feather)
Head Black ostrich herl (1-2 strands)
How to tie it
Optionally slide on a bead, then wrap a pearl tinsel underbody the length of the shank so it flashes through the body.
Tie in the wire rib and wrap an olive or tan Vernille (micro velvet chenille) body forward over the tinsel to the 70% mark.
Counter-wrap the wire rib forward for segmentation and to protect the body.
Tie in a few wood-duck/mallard antennae swept back over the body, then a turn of mottled partridge for legs.
Wrap a black ostrich-herl collar/head to imitate the dark head of the pupa, and whip finish. Why: the ostrich head plus flash underbody sells the gas-filled emerging caddis pupa.
