Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved caddis/nymph, 8-10
  • Thread burnt orange 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper bead (1 (optional))
  • Abdomen Burnt orange (dubbing or Ultra Chenille)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (wire)
  • Antennae Wood duck (few fibers each side)
  • Legs/collar Brown silly legs nymph size (partridge or grouse, 2 turns)
  • Thorax/head Dark brown fur (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a copper bead onto the curved hook and start thread.
  2. Tie in the copper wire at the bend.
  3. Dub a fat burnt-orange abdomen forward to the 65% mark - October caddis bodies are stout, so keep it plump.
  4. Rib forward with the copper wire in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a few wood duck fibers each side as antennae, about half a shank long.
  6. Wind a soft brown partridge or grouse collar for legs and sweep it back.
  7. Dub a dark brown thorax and head behind the bead, then whip finish.
