Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL curved emerger hook, 14-18
  • Thread Olive / brown 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber / brown material (Antron or Z-lon)
  • Abdomen Green / olive material (Dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (Fine wire)
  • Wing Natural dun wing bud (CDC or deer hair)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (Dark dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and start the thread at the 75% mark, base-wrapping to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short amber Antron trailing shuck at the bend, half a shank length long, to imitate the shed pupal skin.
  3. Dub a slim olive abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Rib with 5-6 open turns of gold wire and tie off.
  5. Tie in a CDC or deer-hair wing at the 65% mark, sloping back over the body to about the bend.
  6. Dub a small buggy thorax in front of the wing.
  7. Whip finish a small head so the fly hangs in the film, shuck down, wing up.
