Materials

  • Body Black / red / olive material (Thread or stripped quill)
  • Rib Silver / red material (Fine wire or Mylar tinsel)
  • Cheeks / breathers Orange / white material (Goose biot or Antron)
  • Thorax Black / peacock herl or dubbing (Ice dub or peacock herl)
  • Wing buds Orange permanent marker (Short goose biots (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and run a smooth, slim thread body around the bend to the 70% mark. Buzzers are lean, so avoid bulk.
  2. Rib forward with 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns of fine wire and tie off; the wire suggests the segmented larva.
  3. Coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin or varnish for a wet, translucent shine.
  4. Tie in short orange breather cheeks at the front on each side of the thorax.
  5. Dub a small contrasting thorax of ice dub or peacock at the 80% mark.
  6. Whip finish a tiny head behind the eye.
  7. Keep the whole fly slim. A fat buzzer is ignored.
