How to tie it
Start the thread at the rear and build a tidy thread base; the exposed thread wraps here form the butt hot-spot, so keep them clean and even.
Clean and stack a clump of moose hair and tie it in for the tail, a touch shorter than the body length, then wrap back to the bend.
Lift the moose butts and advance the thread to about the two-thirds point (one-third back from the eye) so the wing will sit there, then bind the butts down.
Dub a thin noodle of brown-olive ice dub and wrap a slim, tapered body forward to the wing point.
Line up two CDC feathers by their tips and tie them in as an underwing so the tips just overlap the tail; pull the butts back, wrap over them, and trim to build a full wing.
Stack a clump of deer hair, set it tips-back reaching to about the tail, make two or three soft turns, then tighten to flare and lock it without letting it spin around the shank.
Pull the deer butts forward, trim them at an angle, and lock the butt ends down with tight wraps.
Tie in the grizzly hackle by the stem in front of the wing, concave/dull side down.
Wrap the hackle forward through the head area in touching turns and tie it off.
Build a matching hot-spot thread head, whip finish and add head cement.
