Classic Recipe

  • Hook Salmon single, 6-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Red hackle fibers (small)
  • Body Peacock herl (full)
  • Wings White goat or calf, split and angled back (2, fluttering)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (sparse collar)

How to tie it

  1. Start black thread on the salmon single and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of red hackle fibers as a tail.
  3. Tie in 3-4 peacock herls, twist into a rope, and wrap a full body forward to the thorax.
  4. Tie in two small bunches of white goat or calf hair, split them into a V and angle them back at 45°. The split wings flutter on the swing like nothing else.
  5. Wrap a sparse brown hackle collar and sweep the fibers back.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
