Streamer · Trout · Pike · Advanced · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Articulated pair joined by braid/wire, rear streamer + front stinger, Rear #4, front #2-1/0
  • Thread Black 3/0

Materials

  • Rear undertail Black / olive rear undertail (Marabou plus flash)
  • Rear body Black / olive rear undertail (Estaz or cactus chenille)
  • Overtail / body Black / olive rear undertail (Rabbit zonker strip)
  • Articulation n/a (Beadalon wire with glass-bead spacers)
  • Front body Black / olive rear undertail (Rabbit zonker plus Estaz)
  • Hot spot Red / hot material (Wool or dubbing collar)
  • Eyes Painted / lead (Lead dumbbell eyes)

How to tie it

  1. On the rear hook tie in a marabou undertail with a few strands of flash at the bend, one shank length long.
  2. Wrap Estaz forward on the rear hook, then lay a rabbit zonker strip over the top as an overtail/body running two shank lengths past the bend, and bind off.
  3. Join the front hook with Beadalon threaded through glass-bead spacers, lashing both ends firmly to the front shank so the sections hinge.
  4. On the front hook lash lead dumbbell eyes near the eye for a jigging dive.
  5. Palmer a rabbit strip and Estaz forward over the front shank to build a bulky, water-pushing body.
  6. Add a hot wool or dubbing collar behind the eyes as a trigger spot.
  7. Build a head, whip finish, cement, and paint or glue the eyes.
