Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 8-14

Materials

  • Tail Red duck quill slip (small)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel (smooth)
  • Wing Blue-black mallard quill (slips)
  • Hackle Black hen (beard)

How to tie it

  1. Start black thread and lay a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small slip of red duck quill as a tail, pointing back.
  3. Catch in flat silver tinsel and wrap a smooth bright body forward to behind the eye, then tie off.
  4. Tie in black hen fibers as a beard under the throat.
  5. Tie in matched blue-black mallard quill slips as a wing over the body, tips to the bend.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
