Hook Standard salmon/steelhead iron, 4-10
Thread Gray 6/0
Materials
Weight Lead wire (optional) (several turns)
Tail Mottled coastal deer hair (1 clump)
Body Strands of burlap/jute sacking (2-3 strands)
Collar Soft long-fibered grizzly hackle (1)
How to tie it
Start the thread two eye-widths behind the eye to mark where the collar will sit, then wind back to above the barb, adding lead wire underneath if you want it to fish deep.
Tie in a clump of mottled deer hair as a tail, two-thirds of a shank length, binding it gently so it doesn't flare.
Tie in the burlap strands and wrap them forward in touching turns to the collar mark. Plain sacking makes a rough, translucent body no dubbing can copy.
Rough the body up with a Velcro stick or brush so it looks chewed.
Wind several turns of soft grizzly hackle with barbs reaching the hook point, then angle the fibers back at 45 degrees with thread wraps.
