Burkus Flavilinea Cripple

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook standard/emerger dry-fly hook (e.g. TMC 100 or 2487), 12-14
  • Thread Olive-dun 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Brown Antron or Zelon (small clump)
  • Abdomen Olive-brown turkey biot or Superfine dubbing (1)
  • Wing Dun CDC or poly yarn (1 clump)
  • Hackle Grizzly dyed olive-dun hackle (1 feather)
  • Thorax Olive-brown Superfine dubbing (1 pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a brown Antron shuck at the bend, about one shank length, to trail in the film.
  2. Wrap a segmented olive-brown biot abdomen to the 60% mark.
  3. Tie in a dun CDC or poly wing tuft upright at the 65% mark.
  4. Wind a grizzly-dun hackle 3-4 turns and trim the underside flat so the buggy fly rides low in the surface.
  5. Dub an olive-brown thorax and whip finish.
