Reference Recipe

  • Hook Plastic/metal tube with a trailing treble or single loop hook
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tube Clear / black tube (Small plastic tube with junction sleeve)
  • Body Black / claret material (Ice dubbing or tinsel)
  • Wing Black / natural / claret rabbit (Zonker strip)
  • Flash Silver / pearl flash (Few strands Flashabou)
  • Collar Hot orange (optional) material (Guinea or hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the tube on a tube tool or fine needle and start the thread near the rear of the tube.
  2. Wrap a short body of ice dub or tinsel forward over the middle third of the tube.
  3. Tie in a rabbit zonker strip on top at the front and let it trail two tube-lengths behind for a long wagging wing.
  4. Add a few strands of flash along each side of the strip.
  5. Wrap a soft collar of guinea or hackle in front of the wing so it sweeps back.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and add a drop of superglue to the tube.
  7. Slide a junction sleeve onto the rear of the tube to hold the trailing hook in line.
