Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard midge / tactical dry hook, 22-28
  • Thread Black 18/0

Materials

  • Body Black / gray / olive material (Thread or fine body quill)
  • Wing Light dun wing bud (Snowshoe rabbit foot fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tiny hook and lay a thin thread base along the shank. Keep bulk to a minimum at this scale.
  2. Wrap a slim tapered body forward to the 70% mark, building a slight thorax bump.
  3. Snip a small clump of fibers from the center of a snowshoe rabbit foot and strip out the underfluff.
  4. Split the clump, reverse the tips so they oppose each other, sandwich them, and pinch-wrap them flat across the shank at the 70% mark for a fuller, better-seated wing.
  5. Pull the wing back, take a couple of turns in front to prop it, and whip finish behind the eye.
  6. Add a pinprick of head cement under the wraps and trim the wing square to one shank length.
