Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, 4-8
  • Thread Pink 3/0

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (Bead-chain or lead dumbbell)
  • Tail Tan / pink rabbit (Short zonker strip)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Pearl / pink material (Diamond braid or pearl braid)
  • Wing Tan craft fur / rabbit (Sparse clump)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread near the eye, lashing bead-chain or dumbbell eyes on a quarter shank back from the eye.
  2. Run the thread to the bend and tie in a short tan rabbit strip tail, one shank length long, with a few strands of pearl flash.
  3. Tie in pearl braid at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to just behind the eyes, building a slim shiny body.
  4. Invert the hook so it rides point-up, then tie a sparse craft-fur or rabbit wing over the top, extending to the tail tip.
  5. Take a few thread wraps in front of the eyes to cock the wing up slightly.
  6. Whip finish a neat head and cement.
  7. Keep everything sparse. A bonefish fly should be lean and land soft.
