Start UTC Ultra Thread Brown 140 a short space behind the eye and lay a thread base.
Seat the Lead Painted Dumbbell Eyes on top of the shank with X-wraps and wraps under the eyes, then add a drop of superglue so they cannot roll.
Run the thread to the bend. Tie in a plume of Brown Blood Quill Marabou extending slightly shorter than a shank length; snip the waste at an angle for a taper and bind it down.
Tie in Rubber Legs Barred - orange and red on both sides, reaching just shy of the marabou. Tie in a length of small gold wire as well and park it in the material clip.
Tie in a few strands of Gold or Bronze Krystal Flash on either side, extending just past the marabou.
Tie in the Yellow or Orange Chenille, advance the thread to just past the dumbbell eyes, then wrap the chenille forward in touching turns; at the eyes, wrap it around them, then bind and trim.
Measure a Brown Saddle Hackle, strip the unwanted fibres from the base, and tie it in on top lying flat, shiny side up. Take two wraps at the rear of the fly, then palmer forward to the head.
Capture the hackle tip with the gold wire and counter-wrap the wire forward through the hackle, wiggling it side to side so it traps no fibres. Bind the wire at the head and helicopter it off.
Stroke all the fibres rearward and take a few wraps at the head. Cut a Brown Rabbit Zonker Strip to reach about as far as the marabou, puncture the hide with the hook point where it will rest, stroke the hackle fibres down, lay the strip over them, pull the front tight and bind it in just in front of the dumbbell eyes. Snip the waste and tidy the head.
Add a few more strands of Krystal Flash on each side, whip finish, and clip off the hackle tip. Brush Solarez Bone Dry UV resin over the head and cure it.
