Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater / streamer hook, 1/0-2
  • Thread White 3/0

Materials

  • Tail White / tan / olive material (Rabbit zonker strip)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (Few strands Flashabou)
  • Collar Matching leather strip (Rabbit dubbing or palmered strip)
  • Head White / tan over darker back (EP fibers, stacked and trimmed)
  • Eyes Silver / red material (Stick-on or painted, epoxied)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread at the 60% mark, laying a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a rabbit zonker strip at the bend for the tail, running two shank lengths long so it pulses on the pause.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl flash along each side, no longer than the tail.
  4. Palmer or dub a short rabbit collar just ahead of the tail to bulk the transition.
  5. Stack EP fibers on top and bottom over the front third, working in bunches to build a broad baitfish head that pushes water.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye, then trim the EP head to a wide, blunt shoulder tapering to the eye.
  7. Glue on eyes and coat the head with UV resin so it sheds water and casts clean.
