Start the thread and rotate the hook to grab the tip of the bend. Tie in red Ultra Chenille about one-and-a-half shank lengths long, wrapping around the bend so the tail stands up; bring the thread forward slightly.
Take the short leftover chenille (about half an inch) and form a 'bubble' at the base of the tail, tying it in; return the hook to normal.
Tie in two root-beer rubber legs across the mid-shank, sliding the wraps back about a quarter inch so a leg runs down each side of the bubble; trim them just longer than the tail.
Spin a short chocolate-brown dubbing noodle at the rear to lock the legs and start up the shank.
Tie in a small set of brass eyes about one eye-length behind the hook eye, on the underside so the fly rides point-up.
Make a dubbing loop of chocolate-brown Hareline dubbing, spin it, pick it out, and palmer it forward, stroking fibers back, up to behind the eyes.
Tie in a partridge feather and wrap a soft collar behind the eyes; tie off.
