Underwing Amber vinyl rib medium (Pinch of Antron or Z-lon)
Wing / Back Natural deer (Small clump deer hair)
Bullet Head Natural deer (Same clump, butts pulled forward)
Legs Barred amber rubber legs (One pair fine rubber legs)
How to tie it
Mount the 2XL hook and start the thread at the 70% mark, laying a smooth base back to the bend.
Dub a slim golden-tan body forward to the 65% mark. Use half the dubbing you think, a stonefly body is lean.
Counter-wrap the brown wire rib forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and bind it off; the counter direction locks the body.
Stack a small clump of deer hair and tie it in at the 65% mark with the tips pointing rearward one shank length past the bend to form the wing and back.
Fold the forward butts back over the body and bind them down at the 65% mark so they mound up into a bullet head, then figure-8 a pair of rubber legs across the tie-down.
Sweep a few stray fibers back for a collar, build a small thread dam behind the eye, and whip finish there.
