Nymph · Carp · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy jig/trailer hook (rides point up), 2-6
  • Thread Fl. chartreuse 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Silver bead chain (1 pair, large)
  • Tail/legs Grizzly barred chartreuse hackle (2 magnum rubber legs)
  • Body Chartreuse arctic fox (medium vinyl rib)
  • Head Chartreuse green material (rabbit strip in a dubbing loop)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread, and lash a pair of large silver bead-chain eyes near the front so the fly rides hook-point up.
  2. At the bend tie in two grizzly-barred chartreuse rubber legs as a splayed tail about one shank length long.
  3. Tie in a strand of chartreuse vinyl rib and wrap it forward in touching turns to build a segmented body up to the eyes, then tie off.
  4. Spin a chartreuse rabbit strip in a dubbing loop and wind it around and behind the eyes as a soft, breathing head/collar.
  5. Stroke the rabbit fibers back, build a thread head at the eye, whip finish, and cement.
