Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Heavy stainless steel wet/streamer hook (Mustad 34007), #6
  • Thread Hot orange 6/0

Materials

  • Wire Gold, fine (One length for the rib)
  • Scud dubbing (Semperfly) Golden hare s ear dubbing (Enough for a buggy body)
  • Ringneck pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (Two clumps from the centre tail feathers)
  • UV resin (Solarez) Clear uv resin (A drop on the head)

How to tie it

  1. Mount a #6 heavy stainless hook and lay a hot orange thread base to the bend, tying in fine gold wire at the rear for durability.
  2. Spin a rope of golden scud dubbing onto the thread and wrap a buggy body forward to about the 75% point, leaving the long fibres standing out.
  3. Rib the body with evenly spaced turns of gold wire, tie it off at the 75% point and break the tag free.
  4. Take a good clump of pheasant tail fibres from a centre tail feather, tie them in at the 75% point so the tips sweep back past the bend, and press them back and around the shank as the first set of legs.
  5. Build a small thorax over the tie-in point with more of the golden scud dubbing.
  6. Tie in a second clump of pheasant tail fibres at about the one-third-from-front point, holding them underneath and sweeping them back to form the front legs.
  7. Preen all the fibres back, build a neat head, whip finish, and set the head with a drop of UV resin.
