Start the black thread and advance it back to just shy of the hook point.
Tie in a small bunch of Nature's Spirit Dry Fly Tailing Fibers (Brown) for the tail, about two-thirds of the shank long; do not wrap too far back, and keep the tail straight. Snip the excess.
Cut a thin Chamois Strip (Tan) and lash it in at the tail, leaving a slightly fatter start to the body.
Wind the chamois forward in touching wraps; it does not need to be neat or sharply segmented, a larva is grubby.
Pull the strip back, bind it down, and trim it out.
Build the head with thread wraps to cover the front of the chamois, whip finish, and trim the thread; a little glue under the chamois or on the head is optional.
