Materials
Ice Dub Pink ice dub (A thin underbody noodle)
Foam, 3 mm Pink foam mm (One die-cut or hand-cut strip for the segmented body)
Crystal Flash Pearl flashabou (Three strands folded to six)
Squirrel tail Natural deer hair (Small to medium clump for the wing)
Mottled turkey quill slip Mottled brown turkey quill (One slip laid over the wing)
Rubber legs, small White rubber legs small (One doubled strand)
Antron or any synthetic yarn White poly yarn (Short tuft for the indicator post)
Dry fly hackle Grizzly hackle (Three or four turns)
Super glue Clear head cement (One small drop)
How to tie it
Debarb a #8 3X long curved shank hook, start white thread at the front and dub a thin pink Ice Dub underbody back past the point where the rear foam segment will sit.
Cut a strip of 3 mm pink foam, tie the rear end in tight at the back of the underbody, and add wraps under, over, under and over the foam plus several more so it can't spin. The Ice Dub underneath helps hold it.
Fold the foam forward and tie down a short middle segment at the mid-shank, then fold it forward again and start the front tie-down at about the 75% point, taking several wraps without pulling them fully tight yet, because the legs, wings and post all get tied in at that same junction.
Lay a doubled strand of white rubber legs along the underside at that junction, pull thread off the bobbin so the wraps stay soft, and set them out to the sides Madame X style.
Tie in three strands of Crystal Flash on top and fold them back to give six strands, trimming them a little past the body.
Tie in a small to medium clump of squirrel tail on top, about the length of the body, using loose wraps going back so it doesn't flare, then tighter wraps at the front.
Trim the squirrel butts, put one small drop of super glue into the wraps and let it wick into the hair, then lay a mottled turkey quill slip flat on top over the squirrel. It pushes the squirrel down, and secure it with soft wraps followed by tight ones going forward.
Tie in a short tuft of white Antron standing up as an indicator post, taking a wrap or two around just the yarn like a parachute post, and trim it short.
Take the thread forward, tie in a grizzly dry fly hackle at the head and take three or four turns, then tie it off.
Whip finish behind the eye, then trim the front legs shorter than the rear pair.
