Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/emerger hook, 14-18
  • Thread Olive or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold or black bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail/trailing shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (a few Antron fibers)
  • Body Olive or brown material (fine dubbing)
  • Rib Fine copper (wire)
  • Bubble back Clear/pearl material (Antron or flash pulled over)
  • Thorax Dark permanent marker (peacock or dark dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the curved hook, and start thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a short amber Antron trailing shuck, no longer than half a shank.
  3. Bind in the copper rib and a strand of pearl Antron for the bubble, leaving both at the bend.
  4. Dub a slim tapered body forward to the 70% mark.
  5. Rib the copper wire forward in 5-6 turns, then dub a small dark thorax behind the bead.
  6. Pull the pearl Antron over the top as a shiny air-bubble back, tie it down behind the bead, and trim.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
