Bubba's Foam Assassin Tan & Apricot

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2X-long dry/terrestrial hook, 8-12
  • Thread Tan 70 denier / 6/0

Materials

  • Body Tan closed-cell foam (1 strip/layer)
  • Back/overlay Apricot (fluo orange) foam (1 strip on top)
  • Underbody Tan/amber synthetic dubbing (small amount)
  • Legs Tan/pumpkin round rubber legs (2-3 pairs)
  • Indicator The apricot foam back doubles as the sighter (-)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a tan foam strip for the body base and an apricot (fluo orange) foam strip stacked on top so the finished fly is tan-bodied with a hi-vis orange back.
  2. Dub a sparse tan underbody, then pull both foam layers forward and segment them together.
  3. Add tan/pumpkin rubber legs each side at the body segments.
  4. Shape the front foam into a small head; the apricot back serves as the built-in sighter.
  5. Whip finish under the head and cement.
