Tie in the White Marabou hackle, wetting the plume first with a damp sponge to tame it rather than licking your fingers.
Clip a small sparse bunch of Bucktail Natural Brown, pull out the short hairs and the strays sticking out sideways, but do not stack it; a little raggedness at the tips keeps it from looking cut off and helps movement.
Measure the bucktail so the tips reach only a short way past the bend, well short of where the wing will end, trim the butts, and pinch it in place on top with a couple of wraps.
Secure the bucktail at the front, then come back with soft wraps behind the tie-in to lay it down; this stiff hump is the anti-fouling guard that holds the wing up and away from the hook gape.
Tie in Flashabou - Gold on top with soft wraps at the back, running it a little longer than the marabou, then fold it back and make a couple of cuts so the strands are mixed lengths.
Tie in a sparse chunk of Goat Hair or Icelandic Sheep - Tan as the wing, again with soft wraps at the back of the head; a big head is fine on this fly since it needs room for the eyes and pushes water.
Match two strands of Peacock Herl to the length of the wing, seat them over the top as the overwing, check everything is straight, and whip finish the tan thread.
Set a Mylar - Gold eye on each side of the head with a bodkin, nudging with fingers if needed.
Switch to Danvile Monofilament Ultra Fine with a loose bobbin and take gentle wraps over and around the eyes to lock them in; whip finish the mono, which leaves a translucent head.
Coat the head sparingly with UV resin, spinning the fly under the torch so it rounds up rather than blobbing, then brush on a top coat so the UV does not stay tacky or go milky.
