Materials

  • Hook Daiichi-style 1760 as captioned ('dii 1760')
  • Bead Brown bead (size captioned '330 seconds', unclear)
  • Thread Olive-brown / brown-olive thread
  • Rib Small wire in copper, brown or amber
  • Tail and body Pheasant tail fibres, five or six
  • Wing case Brown scud back
  • Thorax Custom dubbing blend (rabbit-style dubbing with a little flash)

How to tie it

  1. Attach the thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in the small wire.
  3. Tie in five or six pheasant tail fibres as the tail, measured to length.
  4. Build the body, then wrap the pheasant tail fibres forward a little past the needed point so the wing case will cover it.
  5. Counter-wrap the wire forward in the opposite direction and tie off.
  6. Tie in the brown scud back on top and wrap back over the end of the body to keep it durable.
  7. Dub the thorax with a little extra dubbing.
  8. Bring the scud back over, tie off with a couple of wraps and trim.
  9. Darken the thread with a brown marker, then brush the dubbing out to make legs.
