Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly, 10-14
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Fine flat gold tinsel (2 turns)
  • Tail Golden pheasant tippet (4-6 fibers)
  • Rib Fine oval gold tinsel (fine)
  • Body Brown floss or tying silk (very slim)
  • Hackle Brown hen hackle, long in fiber (1)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a tiny gold tag and tie in the tippet tail at the bend.
  2. Tie in the oval gold rib and wrap a very slim brown body to the 80% mark.
  3. Rib with 4-5 open turns.
  4. Wind 2 turns of long-fibered brown hen hackle and sweep it well back.
  5. Whip finish a small head.
