Brown Paradrake

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly hook, 10-14
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Extended body Brown permanent marker (deer or elk hair, extended and segmented)
  • Tail Natural case (3 body-hair tips, split)
  • Post White or yellow material (calf body hair or poly)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1-2 dry hackles, parachute)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (fine dry-fly dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread, then bind a clump of brown deer hair into a hollow extended body reaching one shank length past the bend, ribbing with thread to segment it.
  2. Leave three fiber tips at the rear as a split tail.
  3. Stand a white or yellow post upright at the 60% mark and anchor the base.
  4. Tie in a brown hackle against the post and dub a small brown thorax around its base.
  5. Wind the hackle parachute-style around the post in 5-6 turns and tie off under the post.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement to the post base.
