  • Hook Standard wet fly hook, 10-14
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Body Brown permanent marker (hare's ear or brown seal dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (fine oval tinsel)
  • Wing Brown permanent marker (mottled brown hen or partridge, tented)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1 soft hen hackle)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread, then tie in a length of fine gold rib at the bend.
  2. Dub a fat, slightly shaggy brown body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Rib the gold tinsel forward in 4-5 open turns and tie off.
  4. Wind a soft brown hen hackle as a sparse collar and sweep the fibers back and down.
  5. Set a mottled brown hen or partridge wing low and tented over the body, reaching to the bend.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
