  • Hook 3XL heavy nymph hook, 6-10
  • Thread Yellow 6/0

Materials

  • Weight Lead (0.02 wire underbody)
  • Tail Yellow/amber material (2 goose biots, splayed)
  • Body Yellow mcflylon (fuzzy yarn or antron blend)
  • Rib Gold middle (oval tinsel)
  • Hackle Grizzly dyed yellow + ginger hackle (2 saddle hackles, in-the-round)
  • Gills Gray flotation (ostrich herl)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, start thread, and lay a lead wire underbody over the middle of the shank.
  2. At the bend tie in two amber-yellow goose biots splayed into a short tail.
  3. Bind in the gold rib and a strand of gray ostrich herl, then tie in the yellow yarn.
  4. Wrap the yarn into a plump tapered body up to the 75% mark.
  5. Rib the tinsel forward in 5-6 open counter-wraps and trap the ostrich herl beside it for gills.
  6. Tie in a grizzly-dyed-yellow and a ginger hackle together and wind them in-the-round as a full collar, stroking fibers out on all sides.
  7. Form a small head, whip finish, and cement.
